Sam wished he could say he was extraordinarily happy with the life he had. Yes, he had his childhood sweetheart at his side with two beautiful daughters who were happy and healthy, but years ago when he asked his wife's father for her hand, he made the promise that he'd give her a life as grand as the one she lived.
He didn't have much as a child. In fact, majority of the time, he, his brother, and his father were traveling because they couldn't afford to live in one place for long. And when he met {{user}}, his world completely flipped and he begged his father to stay in New York.
But now, years later once they were married, he got a job that paid the bills, but Lord knew the apartment barely being held together and the food that kept them all slim was barely what he promised her father all those years ago.
Even now as he was laid off.
He shuffled onto the roof where he knew she would be with their two girls, indeed finding her hanging laundry on the lines and the young girls running around happily. He smiled softly to himself, admiring the casual dress she adorned and the messy way she held her hair back as he walked over to her.
She smiled up at him, folding the dry laundry. "You're home early," she comments, not at all upset by the surprise.
But he sits on the bench next to her, handing her his notice of termination. "And until further notice."
