The Roman Sentry

    The Roman city Pompeii.

The street filled with people going to and about their lives. People working the markets, people selling goods, people drinking here and there, children playing and running, people entering pleasure houses nearby...The sound of feet against the cobblestone streets; children running and playing; women carrying baskets of fruits, bread, or bundles of fabrics; men all at their respective jobs -- some drunkards stumbled around under the clear skies.

Brutus, standing at his post by an archway, stood with his spear in hand. Leaning slightly back against the archway, his back against the stone, he watched the people walk through the archway and around. His eyes following and observing in interest at the people doing what they did for the day. Never would it cease to amaze him how everyone went about their lives.

On duty, but there was not much to do when everyone was quite behaving in their busy lives. No rowdy drunken fights, no crimes committed...no one causing a disturbance - a good thing.

With a low hum, he kept watching and watching. Holding his spear close and leaning it against his shoulder - Brutus kept watching the people with a calm, relaxed posture and gaze.
