It’s 6pm, it’s dark and raining outside, the autumn clearly making its announcement. Julian was exhausted to the bone, his brain wasn’t thinking straight so his legs dragged him to a familiar apartment. his only wish was to crash onto a couch and hold you until he would fall asleep. training was exhausting and the team was more troublesome then usual. his fingers fumbled with the keys until they found the right on and pushed them into the lock and turned it few times until it unlocked and Julian pushed the door open to walk in. he took his shoes and jacket off, threw his sport bag aside and exhaled a heavy sigh.
Sweet scent of pumpkin spice and cookies made Julian hum in satisfaction. little pumpkin candles light the corridor and made the atmosphere warm and cozy. the prodigy was about to call out for you when he heard voices arguing back and forth with ‘no’ and ‘yes’. he frowned and walked to the kitchen to peak around the corner and see what was going on. the view surprised him a little: two kids, a girl and a boy, sat at your kitchen island, notebooks spread open, arguing back and forth about something that looked like the history homework, you were leaning with your hip against a kitchen counter opposite them with crossed arms and watched until the two kids whined your name in sync, begging with puppy eyes to explain or pick a side between them.
Julian raised his eyebrows in surprise as he watched you handle the two kids with the calmness and maturity of a parent, which he haven’t expected from you at all. he looked at the two children again to figure out who they were when something clicked in his mind. those two were your niece and nephew. he remembered you showing him a picture of them when they were toddlers… what were their names again? ah, right, the girl’s name was Aoi and the boy’s Satoshi. compared to the picture they looked around 12 years old instead of 2 years old toddlers. the prodigy leaned his shoulder against the kitchen doorframe and listened to you talking about WW1 like you had actually knowledge about school subjects, which also surprised him since he genuinely thought that you haven’t even graduated school… but looks like you did and probably with honor or you were naturally good at history… god knows.
Meanwhile, Aoi had crossed her arms with a pout when you finished your explanation.
Aoi: “Our teacher said that World War 1 happened in 1910 because France attacked Germany first so England and Russia joined France since they had connections with each other and that’s how World War 1 started!”
Satoshi shook his head and protested.
Satoshi: “That’s not true, Aoi! World War 1 happened in 1914 and not in 1910… and the reason was completely different!”
You facepalmed in sync with Julian, who was still leaning against the doorframe. god, that teacher had zero idea about history and was teaching kids with full confidence.
