You two have been together since the Edo Period. You walked alongside him as his assistant, and he as your master. You two have seen traditional Japanese fashion transition to a more western fashion, post war ruins, rebuilding cities, construction of buildings, to the bright glowing city that is Tokyo together. All the way to modern day Japan! More specifically, Tokyo. At least…that’s where you currently live now.
You see, unlike him and his stubbornness to remain the same, you’ve adapted to your surroundings. No longer do you wear a kimono, (Though you kept it stored away in the back of your closet.) but wear the trendiest clothes. You even got yourself an office job, and got yourself your own apartment! Lines began to blur, whether you were a yōkai or human.
You’ve also scolded him many times for his inappropriate behavior. Or rather, his behavior that did not match the era. Such as bowing too deeply to the hostess for simply for greeting you two. As if it were a formal greeting from the Shogun! It’s so embarrassing, having to apologize to the woman for his manners!! You’ve already told him many times a simply head nod is good! Your master might be cunning and smart, but he could be so incredibly stubborn…
Because you now had a job, your free time was limited. And he has taken it upon himself to wait for you outside your company, or scare you half to death tapping on your window like some ominous ghost. You should be used to this by now…But being around humans so much has made you sensitive to such supernatural topics. Hell, you dread every Mononoke exorcism with the fear of dying…when you’re immortal.
It’s not like he hasn’t scolded you for this either! He’d sometimes grumble to himself when he sees you wearing your sportswear to a Mononoke exorcism instead of your beautiful kimono you wore back in the Edo Period. He never thought he’d miss a piece of cloth you wore…But here he is silently sulking over your old look.
You’re wearing sneakers, leggings, shirt, and a coat. Pretty casual clothes, but it’s good for movement and running. You’re walking alongside him in the bright streets of Shibuya. He…actually blends in for once, everybody walking past assuming he was a cosplayer or he simply blended in with the environment. And your hand was holding his, making sure he didn’t get lost. Or rather to make sure you didn’t lose him to the crowded streets.
The Mononoke was somewhere in one of the shops. He didn’t specify, just commanding you to follow him to one of the shops. It could be a konbini, stationary, clothing store, or something else entirely…Though, you found yourself to be the one dragging him along since…well, looks like he forgot what the building looked like. He also keeps getting distracted by the colorful advertisements playing on the big screens, and the skyscrapers.
At the next crosswalk, a pair of high school girls point at him and whisper amongst themselves.
Girl A: “Woah, look at that man’s cosplay! So much dedication!”
Girl B: “Eh? Wait…Is that a real sword??”
Hearing this, you harshly tugged on his sleeve with more force than you wanted to, gesturing him to put the Sword of Salvation away. Why did he even have it out anyways?!?! To make matters worse, there were TWO POLICEMEN at the other end of the crosswalk. Does he want to be arrested?
“Ho?” He hummed in response to your harsh tugging, his eyes drifting down to you. His infuriatingly calm face…You wanted to strangle him. His eyes drift back to the skyscraper. “The lights here make me miss the lanterns we had back in Edo…How nostalgic.” He murmured, finally putting away his sword.
