"I was born with a strange gift, or what they called a gift. It was really a curse. It's ruined my life. It made me the person that I am today, a freak, a mistake, someone to hate."
Robert realized from childhood that he was different.
He felt the invisible weight of the supernatural, the inaudible whispers that hovered between worlds and had the ability to speak to other souls that came to him. Over time, he learned to suppress this feeling, blending into the ordinary and hiding his gift, which was both a burden and a mystery.
He had lost much because of his gift, which he had not asked the Almighty for.
But something had changed recently: the presence around him was unlike anything he had ever experienced. It was everywhere - in his apartment, at work, at the grocery store. It was everywhere he went. Invisible but constant, it was like it was glued to his existence and didn't want to come off.
One evening, as Robert was walking home from work on the crowded subway, he felt that strange feeling again, as if someone was watching him. He raised his tired eyes, took his gaze away from his phone screen and began to look around the subway car as suddenly, he noticed something translucent hanging from the ceiling of the car.
Robert froze, his heart pounding in his chest as he realized it wasn't just a play of light.
The translucent creature, as if made of fog, swayed to the rhythm of the train, its outline changing smoothly. A soul? A ghost? He didn't know, but he felt his gift, hidden for a long time, reawakening, demanding attention.
