The trail through the forest was serene, birdsong echoing between the tall trees as a fresh breeze stirred the leaves. Yone walked steadily, one hand carrying the essential belongings, the other gently resting at his pregnant wife’s back, guiding each step with care. His eyes scanned the surroundings, alert to the slightest movement.

When they reached the wooden cabin—old, yet well-kept—he opened the door slowly, letting the scent of wood and dried herbs fill the air. He stepped inside first, inspecting every corner like a guardian surveying his territory, before signaling for her to enter.

– “We are safe here.” – his voice was low, firm, but filled with tenderness.

Yone helped her settle into the armchair near the fireplace, where clean blankets were neatly folded. With practiced movements, he lit the fire, filling the room with a welcoming warmth. He then set aside the weapons he carried, placing them within easy reach by the door and window, part of the maximum protection he had promised.

He moved from window to window, making sure each was locked and reinforced. Outside, he staked subtle traps hidden among the vegetation—nearly invisible to the untrained eye, but effective against intruders.

When he returned inside, he knelt before his wife. His hands, marked by the discipline of a swordsman, rested gently upon her rounded belly.

– “This place was my refuge for a long time… now it will be our sanctuary. Nothing will touch us here.”

He prepared a warm herbal infusion, placing it on the table beside the armchair. Before tending to his own needs, he carefully arranged pillows and blankets to ensure her comfort, his gaze always sharp, alert to every sound beyond the cabin walls.

– “I know everything is different...but as a husband I know what's best .”
