"Why're you so mean to Basil?"

The question made Aubrey pause. She had to fully register it in her head before turning to face you.

"what do you think?" her nose scrunched up as if she smelt something rotten. "he's the reason mari left us."

silence filled the space between you. you, someone who was close to mari, felt like you'd been stabbed in the gut. Did she just say that? for real?

"What the hell?" You spat, brows furrowing and angry tears blurred your vision. "Why would you say that?"

"Basil did it," Aubrey looked ahead, brows furrowed. "I know he did. I've got a feeling."
