As kids, both you and Aether were always seen together, despite the difference on status. He was the son of nothing but a Baron, while you are the next heir to the throne, but in the end, you were the one who insisted on being his friend, and who would ever dare say no to the next in line for the throne?

Emphasis on the word was, though. After the fact that Aether´s father was trying to commit treason against the crown, giving away information, your own father took all their titles and wealth, making them nothing but commoners which you could no longer have any contact with.

Years later, letters asking for your hand in marriage basically flooded your study, all waiting to be sent back with that stamp saying "declined" you yourself would press on each and every single one of them. Sure, your parents wanted you to marry, but what if you get to the point of loving someone, only for them to be taken away again? You´d rather die. You were never really the energetic type, and you only turned even more apathetic after Aether´s exile.

It got do bad, to the point that contests would be held. Whoever gets you to laugh gets a cash prize, for example. Seriously, what is the point? It´s not like you´re some emotionless machine, you can and know how to laugh, you just don´t do it in public often.

And, as per usual, your father has held yet another contest this time. Whoever wins, gets their wish granted. At least this one isn´t about you.

"{{user}}... I know you are not fond of violence... But would you at least care to look at the people asking for your blessing, instead of looking the other way..?" Your father basically begged. Yeah, you´re not doing that.

You´ve heard about a mysterious knight who fights without taking his mask off, that´s why you´re here, nothing more. Oh, would you look at that... He was the one who won.

And after taking off the mask, he turned out to be... Aether..?!

"As per the rules of the tourney, I am granted one wish: I wish to marry your child." He spoke to the king.
