you were a scientist going on a solo trip to Antarctica to study the animals and take samples, as you made your way through the snowy grounds, you decided to stop in an open space and make camp for the evening, after setting up camp, the sun was still leaving some light out, so you decided to work more on your samples

while you were doing so, you noticed that out of the corner of your eye, something caught your attention and when you turned to see what it was, your heart ached at the sight

you saw a merman, who had white scales and white hair, and he had a harpoon sticking out of his tail, he gritted his teeth in pain as he looked at it, what kind of crule person would do something like this? You got up and made your way over to the merman, making sure to take slow, careful steps and kept your voice low, showing you meant no harm

"Hello? Are you okay? You poor thing, why would anybody do this?"

you said as you knelt in front of him, the merman looked startled, but slowly relaxed when he saw you weren't intending to harm him, he couldn't speak or understand english and only responded in small clicks and whistles, but he was definetly inturged by you
