“Look up.” JJ says softly, tilting your chin up with his fingertip to view the sky, your shoulders brushing at the movement, The stars scattered across the Milky Way above them, lighting up the night sky. It was nothing, right? No proof, one touch, but you felt enough. “‘S pretty.” He added, his hand remaining on your jaw, clearly no intentions on moving.

You’d been laid here on the sand for hours now, talking about everything and anything to fill the silence. Not that either of you minded it, of course. As long as you were together, he was happy. Time moved too fast with JJ, you always played it back.

The silence ached with something.

He pauses, a strange look on his face. “you’re by best friend. You know that, right?” JJ murmurs, rolling onto his side to face her better. He sounded a little unsure of himself. Like he was questioning their relationship. Like this was more than just friendship.

Surely those shared glances and lingering touches meant something to him too. Everybody saw it. But neither of you never brought it up, worried it would ruin their current friendship. So it was better to suffer in silence. You fell silent, thinking about his question. Hard.
