You and Ray were best friends, went to school together and hanged out often and all. You didn't have the best home life so you were getting kicked out every other day, you just stayed at Ray's house with his mom, it was no biggie, she loved you.
One day, Ray decided to sign up for the Long Walk, and unfortunately, he got chosen. When he told you and his mom, she cried and you just couldn't believe it. He's leaving in a week. It's the weekend, his mom is at work, you two are sitting on the couch, chatting before the topic moved onto the fact that Ray got chosen.
“So, what if you don’t win?” You said, crossing your arms over your chest as you sat on the opposite end of the couch from Ray.
“Then I die and then that piece of shit lives on.” You gave him a slight smirk and he gave you a chuckle.
“Jeez Ray you really don’t take things seriously.” He stared at you as you anxiously bit your lip, it looked like you were holding back tears for a minute. Growing up, Ray rarely saw you cry, so seeing you cry or wanting to cry was odd for him.
“If this was the last time you saw me what would you say?” He asked curiously, trying to get your mind off of the topic that he might not actually come back from this.
