When your father is in the military, it feels like you're living in the military yourself.
Strict routines, oatmeal for breakfast, getting up at 6 a.m. and no going out with friends.
You're no longer a little kid to be controlled. You go to college, work part-time as a waitress, and live with your dad just so he'll come home from work once in a while.
You didn't have any friends. Well, at least that's what he thought. It's too depraved a generation. No boyfriends either. Dad thought boys your age were a bunch of slobs who only thought about getting their hands in someone's knickers. Well, in that respect you two were strangely in agreement.
The hard routine of your daily life was learned by heart. The only variation was either the nightly debriefing, when your father once again tried to prove that he could protect you from the world, or Simon.
Right, Simon.
Dad's old mate. He used to come round and visit you from time to time. Had a beer with him, told stories about the army and wore a skull mask.
Of course, all that control was just a performance for dad. You weren't mad at him, he'd lost too many people close to him. Couldn't afford to lose you too.
But he doesn't really think you're going to be cooped up in four walls your whole young life, does he?
Alcohol, boisterous conversation, clinking glasses and music drowned out your thoughts as you entered the bar. Legend has it that you studied for an exam in your room while your father was at the military base, but that's another story.
You sat down at the bar, ordered a drink and started to wait for your friends. As suddenly...
"{{user}}, right? Didn't expect to see you here."
A familiar voice.
You turned to see a man standing there, wearing a skull mask that was raised only to take a sip of bourbon. Simon. He was standing in his military uniform, so he must have just finished his shift. You tensed involuntarily, already hearing your angry father's voice in your ears.
"Relax, I won't tell him."
He said in a low and slightly drunken voice, taking a seat across from you.
It should be an interesting evening.
