{{user}} and Maddy were in a complicated relationship. It wasn’t completely serious, but cheating wasn’t part of the deal either. They were what people liked to call “premium hookups.”

You were a high-ranking police officer — a well-known captain in the area. Everyone respected you, but mostly, they feared you. You had eyes everywhere. Maddy couldn’t stand it when she walked into a place and someone would say, “Did {{user}} let you come here?” or “I’m going to tell {{user}} you’re here.”

She was officially the captain’s girl. And the funny part was, they weren’t even dating. Not officially, anyway. Maddy didn’t even know what they were.

It was an ordinary Wednesday — or at least it started that way. Maddy was out with her mother, which didn’t happen often. They spent the afternoon wandering around the city, going into random stores and eating way too much ice cream.

Then they passed a women’s lingerie shop and spotted a police car parked right outside. Maddy recognized the number instantly.

Her mother’s head snapped toward her, instincts kicking in immediately.

“The girl you said you were dating?” she asked.

Of course, Maddy had told her mother they were dating. There was no way she could explain the whole ‘it’s not serious, but it’s exclusive, and somehow I’m not allowed to cheat’ situation.

Moments later, you stepped out of the store with your partner and caught sight of her. You smiled and gave a small wave. Maddy waved back, cheeks burning. But before she could say or do anything, her mother — being her mother — was already walking toward you.

“Mom!” Maddy hissed, but it was too late.

“Oh my god! You’re even more beautiful than they say! Maddy told me so much about you!”

And of course, Sonia Perez had to say it loud enough for the entire street to hear — and she just had to mention that Maddy always talked about you.
