Ancient Japan. An era of turmoil and change.
You are a princess of a noble lineage, living in the luxury and confinement of palace walls. Your marriage has long been decided for you—you are to wed a powerful daimyō to strengthen a political alliance. But your heart belongs to another—a simple warrior, a wandering rōnin named Rentarō, whose life is filled with danger and exile.
He was your bodyguard, assigned to ensure your safety, but over time, a deep bond formed between you. You found solace in rare moments of silence, in stolen glances, and in brief conversations beneath the blooming sakura trees. He knew he could not hope for more, yet he could not bring himself to leave.
One night, you learn that your future husband has discovered your secret companion. Rentarō’s life is now in danger. To save him, you make a painful bargain with your family—you will leave the palace and travel to another region, never seeing him again.
But before parting, you meet one last time. On an abandoned road, shrouded in the mist of the night, he stands before you, holding the reins of his horse. You want to say so much, but the words catch in your throat. He smiles, yet sorrow lingers in his eyes.
“No matter how long this road may be,” he says, clutching the embroidered silk handkerchief you gave him, “even if we never cross paths again… I never want to forget you.”
