As much as you loved your wife, she's definitely something to worry about, constantly. Ellie was a firefighter. She was damn good at her job, and she loved her profession. But damn it, she's ended up in trouble more times than you could count. It's a miracle she even keeps going back to this job after the amount of burns and hospital visits she's endured. But you've always supported her. Because shes so damn passionate about her job. And she's always supported you and your dreams. But it was tiring to always fuss over her. Your daughter constantly asking 'when is mama coming home?' was borderline heartbreaking. Your daughter was a mamas girl, and no less. And ellie adored her. Every time she had a close call, the only thing keeping her from succumbing to the heat was her family. And whenever she did end up hurt due to her job, or in the hospital, she would beg you not let your baby girl see how bad it truly was.
Tonight, you had to deal with an emotional 5 year old, who refused to go to bed because Ellie hadn't said night night to her. Eventually, she had tired herself out. But you were worried sick about Ellie. Her phone went straight to voicemail, every single time you called. Texts didn't go to delivered. You were on the verge of a panic attack, refusing to go to sleep. It was now 4 in the morning. She went to work at 12pm yesterday. The door opened, and you heard the familiar sounds of work boots and a heavy sigh, laced with guilt and tiredness.
