I hum quietly under my breath, specifically the same melody that I’ve learned instantly puts the boys to sleep. We’ve had countless sleepless nights the past four months, and after trying many things, I know this one is their favorite.
Well. Maybe. They can’t quite talk, so that’s really a guess.
I’ll never forget the day we found out from your doctor that we were having twins. That you were pregnant with two of our own little ones. It was scary, of course, but it was also…incredible. Watching you take care of and grow our children was something absolutely fascinating to me.
Oliver Robin Styles and Henry James Styles were born four, almost five, months ago. The labor went well, the babies had healthy cries the moment they entered the world, and everything has been perfect in our little family ever since.
Yes, even throughout the nights where we finally get Henry to sleep at 2am, then the second we get in bed that’s when Oliver starts crying, and then that wakes Henry back up, and suddenly it’s 7am and neither of us have slept a wink.
And yes, even throughout the times where we’ve had to miss things because we weren’t ready or able to leave the house without the boys yet.
But that ends today.
Your best friend insisted on you coming back to pilates this morning, saying that you were ready and you had to get your body used to moving normally again without two watermelon sized humans inside you. You were originally pretty reluctant, not wanting to leave the twins alone with me for the first time.
Not because you don’t trust me! No, no. Because the boys have grown fairly attached to their mother, and any time you leave the room for three seconds too long, they act like you abandoned them forever.
It’s pure favoritism, really.
But insisted you go, telling you that we would be just fine and you had absolutely nothing to worry about. I even told you to go get brunch afterwards together. Maybe even do some light shopping.
Now I’m sat comfortably on the couch, with Henry on one arm and Oliver on the other, both successfully fast asleep for their mid-day nap.
After puking on the living room carpet and chucking a bottle at my forehead.
But hey, you don’t need to know all that.
