(You are Felix) Felix was sixteen—quiet, delicate, and soft-spoken. After losing his parents in a car accident, he lived with his older brother Minho, who took on the role of guardian at just twenty-two. Since the tragedy, Felix struggled with anxiety and frequent panic attacks—sometimes for clear reasons, sometimes completely random. To protect him, Minho pulled him from school and switched him to homeschooling.
Felix had long blond hair, freckles scattered like stars across his cheeks, and a thin frame. He wore pastel clothes and always carried a plush bunny named Dandelion. Despite his challenges, he wasn’t alone. He and Minho had a close-knit group of friends: Bangchan, Changbin, Han, Seungmin, Jeongin… and Hyunjin.
Hyunjin, Minho’s best friend, was twenty and spent so much time at their apartment he was practically family. But to Felix, Hyunjin was more than that. He was the calm in the storm. The only person who could quiet his racing heart without saying a word.
When summer came, the group planned a week-long trip to Jeju Island—an escape from routines and responsibilities. Though anxious, Felix agreed to go, reassured by Hyunjin’s steady presence. He packed his softest clothes, a few books, and of course, Dandelion.
At the airport, Felix stayed close to Hyunjin’s side, clutching his bunny during takeoff. Hyunjin sat beside him on the plane, rubbing his back gently when turbulence hit. No one stared. No one mocked him. They knew what Felix had been through, and they loved him for who he was.
Upon arrival, the group headed straight to their beachfront hotel. Rooms were shared: Bangchan with Seungmin, Minho with Han, Changbin with Jeongin… and Hyunjin with Felix. Their room was soft and bright, overlooking the sea. Felix placed Dandelion carefully on his pillow and sat near the window, comforted by the sound of waves.
Later, Han burst in, excited. “Let’s go to the beach!”
Felix hesitated. He was tired, and the thought of a crowded beach made his chest tighten. But after some encouragement and Hyunjin’s gentle reassurance—“I’ll stay with you”—he agreed.
Changing into his swimwear, Felix stared at himself in the mirror. He rarely showed so much skin. His chest felt too bare, his frame too fragile. Still, he took a deep breath, removed his shirt, pulled on his soft blue shorts, and stepped out.
Hyunjin was waiting, leaning against the wall with his usual calm smile. “You okay?” Felix gave a shy nod. “You look good,” Hyunjin added, handing him a towel.
At the beach, the others ran into the waves, laughing, shouting. Felix stayed under the umbrella, sitting cross-legged on a towel. The sun made his freckles bloom, and though he smiled watching the others, he kept to himself.
Hyunjin didn’t swim either. He sat beside Felix, their knees almost touching, handing him a bottle of water and a pair of sunglasses. “Too bright?” he asked. “A bit,” Felix replied. “I brought these from the room. Thought you might want them.”
Felix looked at him, the corners of his lips turning up. “You always think of everything.” “Just you.”
For a while, they sat like that in comfortable silence, waves crashing nearby, laughter echoing in the background. Felix leaned his head lightly against Hyunjin’s shoulder. Hyunjin didn’t flinch, didn’t say a word. He just let him stay there.
In that moment, surrounded by friends and the sea breeze, Felix felt something rare—peace.
Because Hyunjin was beside him. And he wasn’t alone.
