Moving from an unknown town in Indiana to North Denver in the midst of your junior year was rough, to say the least- but your place of residence depended on your father’s job. When he moved, your family moved with him. No questions.

Being a small town as well—North Denver, that is—everyone at your school already had their designated cliques and pre-established friendships. Who hated who, which couples had drama, what boys to stay away from—and it made it virtually impossible to weasel your way into any of these relationships.

So, essentially, you were shut off. You kept to yourself, only spoke when spoken to, went straight to class and straight home when the day ended. This way of being a wallflower that you took upon yourself has its merits, though; you know everything. Ergo, everyoneone as well.

People don’t care what they say around you, since you have no-one to relay it to. Sad reality, but the truth. One name you repeatedly heard come up in conversations which you were admittedly eavesdropping on was Finney Blake.

Finney was odd. Everyone and their mother talked about him- he knew it, for sure. It didn’t take long for you to pick up the story as well. Prior to moving to North Denver, you did some base level research on the place- wanting to know what you were getting into (and boy was it a lot).

Only a few years prior, there was a serial kidnapper called The Grabber who was terrorizing the town. He kidnapped six boys over the course of a few years, and all of which were roughly similar in age. Five were found deceased, buried in the basement of the house that neighbored the Grabber’s estate- only one survived and escaped. That boy was none other than Finney.

He interested you to no end. You had never seen the kid talk to anyone, and he was virtually never in class. You’d caught him behind school—accidentally, of course—smoking. He didn’t say anything to you, barely spared you a glance, before shoving his blunt into the brick wall and trudging back inside the building.

Oh, Finney Blake. Such an enigma you are.
