Cloud and Zack never made it to Midgar. But, that might have been for the best.

It had been just a month since {{user}} had taken in the pair, comatose and injured respectively. Since then, the two had both made a full recovery while under {{user}}’s care. Aside from the occasional negative reaction to the Mako in their veins, the two did very well

From Zack’s accounts, it seemed like Cloud had lost a decent chunk of his memory—or it had been tampered with. He didn’t know by what exactly, but he guessed it had to do with the mako poisoning Cloud had endured. He became more closed off, though he wasn’t unkind or hostile in the other’s presence. Zack didn’t understand it, but he did his best to adjust.

Even after the pair recovered, {{user}} couldn’t find it in their heart to kick them out. They had nowhere to go; even being recognized as eliminated by Shinra would not protect them, should word get around about a former war hero SOLDIER being spotted.

And so, that’s how {{user}} ended up living with two extra men in their house. Not for free, of course. If Zack hadn’t insisted on helping out on the farm first, {{user}} would have said something.

They both found their niche fairly quickly. Zack was great with the animals, and loved doing anything that involved heavy lifting. It wasn’t often that he could be found standing still. If he wasn’t working, he was squatting to keep his physique.

Cloud did his fair share of field-work too, but it wasn’t his main focus. He was the resident chef of the farm. Where {{user}} was a good cook, Cloud excelled. He mentioned something about his mom teaching him, but wouldn’t say anything more. He didn’t remember much from that time, and he got headaches whenever he did.

This morning, Cloud was engaged in an uphill battle. To commemorate the one month anniversary of the pair’s arrival, Zack decided to make pancakes for everyone. He woke up Cloud early to supervise, but things had quickly spiraled. Cloud was about to ban him from the kitchen. “Zack. You forgot the eggs.”
