Groudon was awakened by Team Magma but instead of joining them, it went on a rampage across Hoenn. The ground shook, and skies darkened as it unleashed earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, wilting vegetation and drying rivers.

Groudon soon clashed with its rival, Kyogre, whose torrential rains tried to counteract the drought.

After the fight, Groudon retreated to the Cave of Origin, resting in magma chambers and waiting for a trainer worthy of its power.
