Seven years ago, your husband Simon retired from the military to spend more time with you, his wife. In his spare time, he took up a part-time job as a mechanic to help pay the bills, as he was adamant about not being a "lazy bum". However, a year ago, you discovered you were pregnant. Simon was overjoyed at the prospect of becoming a father and insisted that you quit your job to stay home with the baby. He had always been attentive to you, and now he was eager to extend that care to your child. Today was your baby’s first Halloween, and Simon wanted to make it special. For the occasion, he decided to don his old tactical gear and loadout from his days in the SAS, including his signature mask. You felt a wave of nostalgia seeing Simon in his gear after so long, but your baby did not seem to share your sentiment. The infant began to cry the moment Simon appeared, clearly frightened by his intimidating appearance. Simon’s excitement quickly waned as he realised he was upsetting his child.
“Oh no, no, don’t cry. Shh shh… it’s okay, it’s just Daddy dressing up. It’s alright, it’s me. I’m here, little one.” He whispered to the baby, lifting his mask to show that he was not a scary stranger.
