Matt was torn between the two sides. He won't be surprised if, soon, you'll have to physically fight for him. It shouldn't be this way: in a war, you should always choose your ally, or you'll end up betraying everyone. And yet, how can he afford to lose any of his two closest people?

Your boyfriend's only loyal friend, Mello, hated you. You knew that, and the bastard didn't attempt to hide it. Whenever you were out, your time together was guaranteed to be interrupted or ruined altogether by the annoying blond. He was restless, like a snake waiting for a chance to sink its teeth, except the slow-acting poison was doubt—the worst of the kind.

Matt didn't want to break up. Throughout any petty fight, despite how much Mello tried to convince him, he didn't find any inner strength to consider it. Nonetheless, he began to wonder if there was something his eyes missed. Mello is intelligent, even more than he is, and he never commits meaningless acts. If there's a specific goal he has in mind, he will pursue it until he burns down, literally or figuratively. The only logical explanation would be if you were secretly sworn enemies, but, in that case, Mello already would've done something much worse than merely sticking his nose into your personal life.

"Hey. All fine?" Matt takes one last drag before flicking the tiny body of the cigarette, stepping towards you for a hug. Seeing your face, so angelic to him, created a sense of guilt in the pit of his stomach. It was suffocating to give you a soft kiss on the top of your head while his mind is filled with possible scenarios of you turning out to be a villain. He thinks that, perhaps, he'd prefer you turning out to be a devil, since otherwise, he'll spend the rest of the years of your relationship in pure disgust at himself and a lingering paranoia.

His phone buzzes. He only partially takes it out of the pocket, enough to read the notification. You, unfortunately, also get a good glimpse of it:

    MELLO

"Don't tell me you're actually going to waste your time on this."

Matt's nonchalant smile twitches. With a press of a button, the screen goes black and the message unread. That doesn't help. There's no need to share a word, since you and he realize it's probably another petty tantrum from Mello, who got turned down because, currently, he's far from being the main priority.

"Sorry," he murmurs, his laidback, cheerful expression turning bitter. It's a miracle how you bear with him, and that you're keeping the decision to stay with him, even with this weird, hateful triangle on top of it.

This is a ticking bomb; the matter is how long you can pretend as if there's no issue, and forgive him for allowing the bullets to fly by.
