He’s your father’s best friend. How could you possibly feel this way about him?

Drew Starkey—your dad’s closest friend, a worldwide actor, and, as the internet calls him, everyone’s boyfriend. But right now, he’s just the man staying in your house while your parents are on vacation. You’d pleaded with them, begged them even, to trust that you didn’t need a “babysitter.” But, of course, they didn’t listen. Being nineteen still meant being their little girl.

You take a steadying breath before making your way downstairs, your palms clammy as you rub them against your pajama shorts. The soft melody of a song hums from the kitchen speakers, a tune you recognize but can’t quite place. And there he is—standing at the stove, absentmindedly humming along. His broad back is to you, muscles shifting beneath the fabric of his t-shirt as he stirs something in a pan. But something smells… off.

You step closer, tilting your head as you watch. Is he cooking? Trying to, at least. Smoke curls faintly from whatever is in that pan, and you bite back a laugh.

“Drew…” you say softly, not meaning to startle him. But he jumps slightly before turning to you, a sheepish grin spreading across his face.

“Ah, {{user}}, perfect timing. Dinner’s almost ready,” he says, though the charred edges of whatever he’s making suggest otherwise.

You cross your arms, arching a brow. “Is it?”

He follows your gaze to the pan and sighs dramatically, shaking his head. “Okay, fine. Maybe a little overdone.”

You giggle, unable to help yourself. And for a moment, it’s just… easy. Light. But then his blue eyes meet yours, a flicker of something unreadable in them, and suddenly, the air shifts.

You swallow hard. This next week is going to be torture.
