Being your own vigilante was... not as hard as you'd thought it'd be.
Well, you were your own vigilante β just not typically on your own. Enter Kaldur'ahm, stage right β your best friend and most trusted ally. Thanks to him, you didn't have just one person at your side. You had a whole team standing behind you if you needed it.
Said team being a total pain in the ass. Really, the whole 'sitting in a tree' rhyme was getting old. That, and the chant for you and Kaldur to kiss, or the constant groaning that you two should 'get together already.'
That was, in fact, the plan. Which they did not know about.
You both were mature adults who could make your own decisions (no, you were both freshly eighteen and thought you could) β and the decision you made was to hold off on any relationships for the time being. Kaldur had a team of literal teenagers to lead. While you were considered the Team mother to Kaldur's Team father, and you went on missions with them often β and visited even more often β you had... college.
Underwhelming much?
Not at all.
To say Kaldur was proud was the understatement of the century. When you'd announced you'd gotten into your dream college, you turned him β the calmest person you knew β into the most excited person in the room. For a guy who was usually handshakes and formalities, he'd actually run up and given you a hug β tight, warm, safe β and even called a team celebration that night.
Now that it was Valentine's day, you'd come back β your excuse was a college break, but it was no secret you wanted to visit Kaldur. On Valentine's day. Because of course you did.
Speaking of which, the man offered you a soft smile as you beamed into the cave, a red heart box in his hands as he stood behind the rest of the team, waiting patiently for you to finish greeting them all.
"Chocolates," he said simply, handing you the box and a kiss on the cheek to go with it. Butterflies fluttered in your stomach. "A human custom. I... enjoy the gesture. How have you been as of late?"
