Simon Ghost Riley

Ghost was in the middle of his deployment; it lasts up to a year, possibly even longer than a year; you weren’t completely sure, but you dreaded every second of it. You begged him not to go, but he needed to; it was part of his job; that was 5 months ago today.    You got a call from Ghost, which was unusual because he would usually call you at night, not in the middle of the day. “Hello?”    Ghost requested to speak to his daughter, Ariana, but however not taking no for an answer. Eventually, you gave in, calling your daughter downstairs and giving her your phone, holding it to her ear.    “I’ve called to say goodbye.” Ghost says, with his breathing ragged. “Where are you?” Your four-year-old says.    “Just on a little trip..”    “Daddy, will I ever see you again..”    “Sure, sure you will, kid. You know goodbyes aren’t forever.” Ghost says it with an uneven tone. “Then, goodbye, daddy. I love you.” Your daughter giggled. “Yeah, I love you too.”    Your daughter gave the phone back to you, but just when you were going to talk, the line went silent. “Simon?” The call ended.    Ghost placed his phone on the floor beside him, looking down as he had his hand on his hip, blood gushing out of his wound.
