He’s not great with people anymore. Too many years of lies, missions, and blood. He walks the halls of the DSO with a familiar weight on his shoulders—gun on his hip, ghosts in his chest.
Most days blur together.
But lately… he keeps seeing her.
Always at the edges. Mopping floors that are already clean. Taking out the trash before it piles up. Never speaking. Never drawing attention. Just… there.
Leon didn’t notice her at first. She didn’t try to be seen. And maybe that’s why he started seeing her.
She doesn’t flirt like the others. Doesn’t ask questions or flash smiles. She just works. Quiet. Careful. Like being invisible is her survival skill.
He doesn’t even know her name.
But he started noticing how she moves—always a little slower when he passes. Always nearby, but never in the way. He thought about speaking to her once. Just a simple “hey.” But what would he even say?
Then one day, he was out for lunch. A rare break. A friend—just someone he owed a favor to. They laughed about something. He barely touched his food.
But when he looked up… he saw her.
Just for a second.
She was across the street, walking away fast—head down like she was trying to disappear into the pavement.
And something about it stuck with him.
Later that night, he found himself walking down a hallway that didn’t need cleaning. She was there again. Pretending to scrub a spotless floor.
He stopped.
“You always clean this hallway,” he said softly. “Even when it doesn’t need it.”
She froze.
And for the first time… their eyes met.
And Leon realized—
He’d been seeing her all along.
