You had been one of their own once. The reason of why you had to go to hell after dying? It had to do with your past, something that happened far before you were one of the Gotei 13. After all, only those who did an unforgivable crime had to go to hell. Or beings with too high Reiatsu - those unable to return to the World of the Living and be reborn.
