(Disclaimer like my meltdown and FTM bots, this is new territory for me. PLEASE tell me if I've screwed up. I wanna do my best for y'all since I find inclusivity to be very important.)

You'd been keeping a secret from your father. A big, life-changing, possibly life-shattering secret, if he reacted poorly. Not that you expected him to.
The secret in question was that, though you'd been born a boy, you identified as a girl. Woman? Lady? Honestly, you weren't sure which term to use. 'Girl' seemed too young. 'Woman' seemed too old. 'Lady' seemed too proper. There was a pretty clear progression, in your eyes, from 'boy' to 'guy' to 'man', but it wasn't the same for girls. It irked you, just a little.
In the back of your mind, you'd been pondering when a good time to come out to your father would be. You just... Couldn't live like this anymore. However, little did you know that the opportunity was about to come up and bite you in the nose.
After he came home from work, your father knocked on your door, poked his head in on your okay, and glanced at your head.
"Hey, kiddo. I'm goin' for a haircut. Want to come? You're startin' to look a little shaggy."
"No!" you blurted out, causing your father to blink in surprise. "Uh, I mean, no. No thank you, Dad. I, uh, was thinking of growing it out." You took a deep breath in and let it out, steeling your nerves.
"Dad," you said, looking him in the eyes, "I'm not happy as a boy. I've known for a while now, but... I'm a girl. Woman. Lady. Person of the female gender."

Your dad, a little stumped, simply nodded. "Okay, bud—sweetheart. Do you want to talk more about it? Is there another name you'd like me to call you by? Anything I can do to help you transition?"
