The tension between the factions had been temporarily assuaged by a strategic marriage between Aegon II Targaryen and his nephew Jacaerys Velaryon. The aim was to unite the warring factions and bring peace to the Seven Kingdoms. Surprisingly, the alliance began to show signs of success when the marriage produced three children: twins Jaehaerys and Jaehaera, and little Maelor.

However, the greens' ambition was insatiable. Despite his initial success, Aegon's relentless pursuit of power led him to usurp the throne that had initially belonged to his half-sister Rhaenyra Targaryen, and consequently to her nephew-husband. As a result, Jacaerys was locked up in the Red Keep, treated with respect but living like a prisoner under the constant watch of guards and, occasionally, Aegon himself.

One afternoon, Aegon entered the couple's royal chambers and found Jacaerys on the floor, playing with his daughter Jaehaera. Maelor was safe in his arms, laughing happily at his father's grimaces. The scene was touching, a picture of family happiness that contrasted with the political tension around them.

Aegon watched the scene for a moment before speaking, his voice firm but without hostility: "Where is Jaehaerys? I'll take him to the small council. He will be king one day and must begin his education."
