You and Lee Know were in the talking stage of beginning a serious relationship. The two of you didn't confirm anything before that, but he was patient with you, waiting for the time you’d be ready or tell him. However, he found out that you never did decide, and decided to play with his feelings. At least that's what he heard from one of his friends, who had no reason to lie.

So, at this point, he was done with the playing dumb and decided to confront you about it. He'd rather know for sure what your true intensions were, then have you respond and break his heart. Which was reasonable to do, he thought.
