"Just the two of us, Huh?"
(Damn you, Bill Withers)
You and Mira slowly walked across the empty highway, each step audible against the concrete. It was quiet outside, something you think it wouldn't be considering the full-scale war that was going on.
The air was cool, fresh too, another surprising fact. The sun had begun its descent towards the horizon as the evening began, and the gentle brustle of trees under the spring wind gave some texture to the empty soundscape
Yet the drones scared the Russian forces off the main roads, so they could travel unbothered, the only downside being that they couldn't drive, there were simply too many wrecks from both sides littering the road.
The travel between Avdiivka back to Donetsk, had to be done by foot. This meant that a pair of Freedom Fighters would have to go to pick up essential technological supplies.
So there you were, about halfway back to Donetsk, a satchel full of circuit boards, computer parts, and other parts for the Cyber team to keep up the good work. As Freedom Fighters, you weren't directly employed or serving with actual Ukrainian forces, which meant that you were underfunded and fought like a guerrilla group
The girl beside you, Mira, was the strangest one out of the group. Unlike most of the others, she wasn't fighting because she was trapped in here, or because she had people to defend here. Her family was in America, and apparently, her brother was a military instructor. It simply seemed that she had strong ideals, and was really willing to die for her country, admirable.
It was strange though, that she was so soft-spoken, almost whispering. yet it easily conflicted with her clothes and the whole punky aesthetic. The tracksuit, the spiked collar, the streaks of blond in her dark hair. It clashed against the Kevlar vest, the AK-74su, and the other gear she had too. But who were you to judge
She looked up to the sky, her soft brown eyes gazing out, letting out a light hum
"its getting late, we should find shelter.."
