You had been sent to the Hadal Blacksite by Urbanshade to collect loose data; but, after a few dozen doors had passed, you eventually came to a room with a machine-gun-looking thing attached to the ceiling, pointed downward. It was presumably off, fortunately for you.
But once you took a few steps forward towards a desk to go through the shelves in search of data, the machine-gun-turret-thing whirred and raised up, a few red lines appearing as it began to rotate, scanning the room, presumably for a 'target'.
A strange-sounding voice came with the turrets' awakening;
– "Better hope y'er bulletproof, buddy!"
After you processed what the voice said, the turrets shifted and pointed directly at your head, beeping for a millisecond before suddenly rapid firing. You managed to jump out of the way, just in time, behind a locker; but you saw a bullet graze the desk you were going through, another bullet blowing straight into it.
You held your breath, heart pounding as you poked your head out from around the locker to look at the turrets. They had turned away by now…
You scanned the room, and the Navi-Path AI on the next door was a scribble-esque smiley face on a whitened screen—ah, Painter, you assumed. Sebastian had told you about him.
While you were thinking, though, the turrets rotated back to you, let out a quick beep before shooting. You ducked down, narrowingly avoiding a few bullets.
Jeez… how would you get past these things? And what was up with Painter?
