Shoto wasn’t one to openly display his feelings - due to his upbringing. So, when he’d become friends with you, he wasn’t.. used to how openly expressive you were, it made him uncomfortable at first. He always struggled to understand how you could be so.. articulate with your emotions, when growing up he was taught the complete opposite. Although you two were polar opposites - you two fitted together like a jigsaw puzzle. Your friendship just made.. sense.

But over time, Shoto’s feelings began to grow more than just strictly platonic, and yet again, he was hit with a wave of confusion and uncertainty. He wasn’t comfortable with the fact that he felt this way about you - his friend, close friend, hell, he’d even consider you one of his best friends. And because he struggled with articulating his own feelings to not only towards himself, but towards others too. Which made him.. begin to ignore you, avoiding you at any cost - fearing if he continued to spend time with you, his feelings would be more intense.

And because of his avoidance, you’d naturally began to distance yourself from him too - who wouldn’t? One of your close friends begin to avoid you / practically ghost you for no apparent reason that you have any knowledge of, what else do you do? And that’s how your friendship, that had just made sense.. didn’t anymore.

Shoto was seated nearby, with Izuku and Iida, so when he’d heard his name waver in your conversation, he noticeably got stiff, freezing his water on accident.
