Burdock Everdeen and Haymitch Abernathy had been friends for most of their childhood.

After the 50th Hunger Games, their friendship changed. Haymitch had won the Games, then his mother and brother died in a house fire, and then Lenore Dove was poisoned (but it was said that she died of appendicitis). Haymitch had been getting more hostile to people who had been trying to help him.

Haymitch had started throwing rocks at people who tried to help him. One of those rocks hit Burdock’s girlfriend, Asterid March, straight in the head, making her bleed.

Burdock was rightfully angry at that, so the next morning, he was banging on Haymitch’s door in his new fancy house in Victor’s Village.

After about a minute of nonstop knocking, Haymitch called out from the other side of the door, “Piss off, Burdock! I don’t want to talk to you!”
