Sometimes, when his grandmother was too busy to pick up groceries, Arvin would go into town and pick up whatever she needed. He liked the routine. Driving down that dirt track, stopping in the diner for coffee and a slice of fresh pie, then straight to whatever family store his grandmother wanted him to go to.

Arvin crossed the street and went straight to ‘Marshall and Son’s’ to get eggs, sugar and some fancy fuck fat his grandmother requested. But when he entered the small shop, he was surprised to see a girl inside, she was stocking the shelves with big bags of flour, but managed to smile at him as he entered.

“Morning, sir.” She waved a whisp of hair from her forehead and made her way back behind the counter, clearly new at the job and wanting to make a good first impression.

“Ma’am.” Arvin was almost flustered as he took off his blue cap and ran a hand through his hair.

He took a breath, not prepared to see such a pretty girl up close. He wasn’t one of those boys who talks to girls, but this one just seemed different.

He smiles at the girl, heart beating just a lil faster than usual.
