Catcher Block was a man who went through secretaries as frequently as he changed his underwear—so frequently, in fact, that he barely noticed anymore. Women applied, lasted three days, and quit. He paid little attention, unless, of course, they were attractive.
That’s why Nicole caught him off guard. She had approached him at a random bar on a random night—not for sex, but for an opportunity. She proposed a deal: she would be his secretary, the best one he could ever dream of. In return, she wanted stability and independence.
Catcher had brushed it off, assuming she’d quit by the end of the week like the others. But when that didn’t happen, she piqued his curiosity. He flirted, tested boundaries, but Nicole didn’t budge. She stayed, steadfast and unshaken, always one step ahead. Whenever he found himself in a pinch, she had an alibi waiting for him before he even made it into the office.
“Thanks for covering for me. It’s been a long night, and the last thing I need is someone nagging me about work,” Catcher muttered, his eyes scanning the rows of suits, unsure which one to change into.
