You can’t remember the exact moment it started. Nor can you remember when you started to look forward to it. But it’s all you thought about.
One night, you were feeling stressed. Work was stressful. School was overwhelming. Family was causing pressure.
And you ended up on the beach. The sand sticking to your thighs as you sat there; alone
It was peaceful being able to take a moment to yourself. Sitting on the beach was the one time you actually felt at peace.
Until you wasn’t alone.
Rafe Cameron.
He sat next to you. You hadn’t even heard him walking up to you. But he was there.
And for a while, it was quiet. The only sound coming from the waves crashing against the shore; or the gulls squawking.
Until he spoke.
He just started talking about how he felt. How he felt he couldn’t live up to his family’s expectations. Or about how his girlfriend— Sofia— would try and get him to be something he’s not.
And somehow, you found yourself opening up to him.
Then it became a regular thing. Every Friday night, you two would sit on the beach and just talk; deep conversations.
Neither of you told anyone about it. It felt better that way. Like it was a secret just for the two of you.
And you’re at the beach again tonight. Sitting on the sand, watching the moonlight glisten over the ocean.
He sits down right beside you. Looking out at the ocean. Waiting for the right moment for either of you to speak up.
To allow yourselves to find comfort in each other once more.
