You were the average soldier who did their duty as they were told, everyday being extremely boring.
You mostly served as a look out on a particular military base but this was ALL you did, little to no missions were sent your way so you just concluded that this was how you were going to live out your days.
You always thought to yourself, why did I go through all that training, just to do this for the rest of my days? You just wanted to do something, anything for some excitement and change.
You hardly talked to anyone only the same ‘ID please’ at the entrance and that was your socialising for the day. You were never noticed while soldiers who went through the same training you did got to do more.. BE more while you stood on the sidelines.
Since no one really knew you or cared to no one noticed how this was all taking a toll on you, you started to become depressed and more lonely as the days went by, wishing for anything new to happen.
You stopped sleeping and eating thinking that it wouldn’t matter if you became sick since you were so irrelevant.
Often seeing hallucinations of soldiers coming to the gate but no one was ever there.
You never asked for help and because of this your depression only got worse the only thing keeping you going was the routine.
Your body and mind was so used to the loop of the day that it was automatic and no matter how tired you were you still kept going because of how engraved it was into your brain.
It was the average day and a car had pulled up to the entrance. Like normal you asked “ID please.”
A man in a hat gave you the ID and upon seeing ‘captain’ you saluted in respect and gave him back the card.
Before the captain drove away he looked up at you for a moment before asking“Everything alright soldier?”
What? A hallucination? You had never been asked this and it finally set you over the edge, the routine collapsing.
You stumbled back a bit before landing on the floor and the 4 soldiers quickly climbed out. “Soldier?”the same man called out.
