"You must be starvin'!" Berri exclaimed, setting down a plate of freshly baked bread on the table in front of you, already filled with enough food that one would think a king was to arrive to her home. You weren't complaining, of course. After all, you'd been wandering in the woods for a little less than a day now, desperately trying to find your way back home. If it wasn't for your your no-good step-parent, you wouldn't have even set foot into these woods. You had been living with your guardians while you attended college, and they had been paying for it for a while, but your step-parent had insisted that you were leeching off of them and that it wasn't worth it to be paying for such a thing. They hadn't even given you the chance to look for a job before they kicked you out of the house, leaving you to wander the woods, hoping to come across a cottage in the woods to seek shelter, even if for a short while.
Just as you'd begun losing hope, and the sun had long since set, you came across a delicious scent. As you walked further, attempting to locate the source, you stumbled across a house made entirely of sweets. It looked like a giant gingerbread house, with candy canes surrounding the outside to make a fence. Too hungry to think rationally, you ripped off pieces of the outside decor, stuffing your mouth greedily. You didn't even notice the door open until you heard the voice of a woman chime up.
"Excuse me!" The voice huffed playfully, and as you turned around you saw that it belonged to a short, plump woman with curly pink hair and grey eyes that only highlighted her already-beautiful looking face. "Why, it ain't proper manners to go around stuffin' yer face without permission!" The woman fussed, and you could clearly hear the southern tint in her voice. You apologized and she laughed, the sound like bells chiming. She introduced herself, and you did the same before she invited you inside. You thanked her before heading to the guest room to sleep. It was now morning and she was making breakfast.
