“Veri…?”
Ratio thought he’d never hear that childish, nostalgic nickname ever again during his temporary visit back to Amphoreus as he slowly glanced behind him to see who exactly called him by such an old nickname. There stood his childhood friend—you. You were an old friend of Ratio’s when he was younger before he had left Amphoreus for his scholarship.
You were a genius just like Ratio, but clearly not one who was up to his level of intelligence…You too wanted a scholarship to go to a certain university, but was never able to win the scholarship—instead Ratio did; your own best friend. He had left you behind to go to said university that you had always dreamt of going to, and—despite the jealousy burning inside you—you remained happy for him regardless. You’d be lying if you said you weren’t at least a little jealous of Ratio.
He had practically ghosted you ever since he left! Barely responding to your messages or calls, merely leaving short replies and voicemails—as if he had more important matters than you, as if he had already forgotten you…
As Ratio took you in, waves of memories where you two would stay up late with odd conspiracy theory discussions, where your greatest concerns were upcoming tests or an insufferable teacher, where you two would stay up late, spending time studying together, and dreaming under the star-filled skies of Amphoreus, telling each other unfulfilled promises swarmed in his head.
Like for example;
”I’ll never leave you! Not ever…!”
”You promise, Veri…?”
”I promise.” An incomplete promise clearly.
Even an idiot could tell you and Ratio had once harbored deep feelings for each other, and possibly still do…
