There were a few things stopping you from confessing to Severus. For one, his heart belongs to another, and no other heart will do.

You hated the way he gazed at Lily, eyes full of sorrow and regret. He regretted calling Lily a mudblood, he regretted never being able to tell her 'I love you' and instead having to watch her fall in love with someone else, her regretted that he could never make her smile or laugh again. You hated that he'd never think that way about you.

However, you know he'd never give you a chance, and even if he did, he'd never be thinking about you when his heart still yearns for her.

Maybe that stopped you too, or maybe it was the fact he was so in love it hurt, maybe it was the way his eyes would light up when he was with you and his other friends. Maybe you don't want to ruin that.

Although a year had past and all of his friends wish for him to get over it. Lily has the same starry-eyed look that Severus does, but it's for that arrogant tw*t, James, and not him anymore. Severus just longs for it to be for him again.. but it never will.
