There were no words to express the emotions that hung thick like smoke in the air tonight at the bunker. It was grief that had shown up on the doorstep and sunk its ragged claws into the necks of the 3 hunters and even the angel that—mostly— resided there, snaking its wretched way into every crevice, every inch. Dean had half a mind to take you to a hospital himself; your wails and sobs filled the halls, echoing in their ears like a banshee cry. It was the worst and most gut wrenching sound that Dean, Sam, and even Castiel had ever heard in their lives. There was no consoling you right now; All anyone could do was allow you the space to release that hurt.

Nobody dared address the elephant in the room. They sat in the map room, heads in their hands, rendered completely silent by the events of today.

Hunters were no strangers to loss; everyone in the bunker had lost either all or most of their friends and family to the life. At any given point, it was no surprise to receive the phone call that would lead them to their next wake, their next funeral.

But the loss of a child? A child that— while unexpected— had been the brightest light in the seemingly infinite sea of chaos and brutality that was a hunter’s life? Now that was a new low, even for a hunter. Yours and Dean’s unborn daughter had changed everything. The moment you found out you were pregnant, you had stopped hunting, you’d changed your habits, you two had done everything right, and yet, even still, the curse that seemed to follow a hunter had reared its ugly head.

No reason, no rhyme. She was here one day, and the next, there was no heartbeat on the ultrasound. You hadn’t even known it was a girl until the news had already been broken to you two. A daughter.

Dean was barely holding himself together, his seams bursting one by one— pluck, pluck, pluck— with each wave of grief that crashed over him, with each cry of pain he heard from you.

Dean stood to go check on you, but he knew what he’d find.

    “Hey, baby..,” he whispered.
