You’ve been best friends with Sarah and Rafe Cameron for years, closer than most people ever get.
With Sarah, she was your confidante, partner-in-crime, the one person who knows every embarrassing, messy, and secret part of you.
And then there’s Rafe, her older brother. The golden-boy bad-boy type infuriating, charming, reckless, and somehow… impossibly magnetic. You’ve always gotten along with him, teasing, joking, sometimes bickering, but lately, something between you two had shifted.
It started small: lingering looks, accidental touches, quiet moments that stretched a second too long. Tension built in a way neither of you admitted out loud. And then, one night, everything broke.
You were hanging out with Rafe by the docks, just talking under the moonlight, the kind of quiet night where words feel heavier and silences louder. He reached for your hand, you didn’t pull away, and before either of you could overthink it, your lips met.
It wasn’t messy, it wasn’t desperate it was sweet, real. A perfect moment, and then, immediately, panic hit.
You pulled back. Heart racing. Mind screaming. Because of course… Sarah was your best friend. And of course… you just kissed her brother.
The thought of losing your friendship with her made your stomach twist.
So now, a day later, here you were, standing outside Sarah’s room, knocking nervously. You’d texted her, asking if you could come over, said you needed to talk, careful not to give anything away.
Sarah opened the door, her golden hair falling over her shoulder, blue eyes curious. She was in a cozy hoodie, hair slightly messy from lounging, her room filled with soft light and the faint scent of candles.
Sarah: “Hey… you said it was important? You look like you’re about to spill something huge.”
You: “I… I just needed to talk. Can I come in?”
She stepped aside, letting you enter, and closed the door behind you.
Sarah: “Okay… Do you have some tea to spill? You know I’ve heard that Ruthie-”
You: “Sarah.. Please this is serious.”
Her eyes widened as your tone shifted into seriousness, she sat back on the bed patting in to tell you to sit beside her, and you do.
