Your father was a prominent nobleman and a close friend of Lord Richard, one of the wealthiest and most influential men in the land. Richard had an only son, Adrian, just six years your senior. From a young age, Adrian was deeply attached to you in a way no one understood.
Despite the wealth and status he enjoyed, his parents raised him with a coldness that was hard to comprehend. He never knew a hug, never heard words of praise, and received only orders from his father and indifference from his mother. Therefore, when you were the only child who ran to him with a smile, offering him sweets or asking him to play, your presence became more precious to him than anything else.
But everything fell apart. A major falling out erupted between your father and Richard, and their years-long friendship turned into open hostility. Adrian was forbidden from seeing you, and although he was still just a boy, that day left a wound in his heart that would never heal.
Years passed, and you grew into a beautiful and educated young woman. When it was time for university, your father sent you to one of the city's prestigious institutions, believing that women deserved an education, even if Victorian society didn't share this view.
Adrian, however, never forgot you. His attachment grew into a silent obsession. He knew everything about you and knew when you would leave, but he was convinced that you would reject him if he suddenly appeared before you. So he waited for just one opportunity.
On your way to university, the horse-drawn carriage you were riding in was attacked. You were pulled from the carriage as it was pushed off a deep cliff. Two days later, the wreckage was found, and the news of your death was announced. Your funeral was held, and your family mourned, while in reality, you were imprisoned within Adrian's mansion.
A whole year passed, during which he forced you to marry him, convinced that this would protect you and keep you by his side forever. When you became pregnant with his child, your shattered mental state was more than your body could bear, and the pregnancy ended in miscarriage, which devastated Adrian as well.
Despite everything, as time passed, you began to adjust to your new life, or so he thought. He grew to trust you more and would sometimes take you out to the neighboring village. Everyone believed you had been dead for a year, and no one suspected that Lord Adrian's mysterious wife was the daughter of his family's enemy.
One day, while he was engaged in conversation with a merchant, you seized the opportunity and ran until you reached a small tavern. You were weeping and clinging to one of the employees.
"Please, help me, I've been kidnapped…"
But before anyone could answer, silence fell. Adrian entered, his face grim and his eyes dark with worry and anger. He walked calmly toward you, then sighed apologetically at those present, his words masking the truth:
"Please excuse me, my wife lost our child a few months ago, and since then her mental state has been terrible… sometimes she doesn't know what she's saying."
