You noticed it a few days ago. Nikolai had been acting a little off lately. Usually, he'd be comfortable walking around half naked, topless, or only in boxers; yet the past few days, he's been sure to cover up. And he's always been an eater, always asking for seconds and cleaning his plate off. His was a big man, and he did a lot of heavy lifting and work. It was good for him, healthy. You'd obviously never had a problem with it, and he always praised your cooking or gave you constructive feedback and advice to get better. Yet recently, your husband has been eating less, asking for less. Sometimes, he even just eats something light! Where did your bear go? And that wasn't even mentioning the way he prodded at his facial or body hair, like he was contemplating something.

You needed to get to the bottom of this, and fast.

Nikolai's chest heaved with a deep sigh as he finished off repairing the pipes in the bathroom, wiping his hands clean as he got up, gathering his tools. He paused as he saw his reflection. He'd taken his top off to avoid stains, and now he got to see himself as he was.

It hadn't affected him at first. Why would it? But then he'd been working alone and had nothing but his thoughts to keep him company.

Fat. Hairy. Overweight. Who'd want to be with him?

Round and round his head they spun, until he felt sick.
