It was a one-night thing, that’s all you both had allowed yourselves to be to each other. It had been fun, there was the right chemistry between the two of you, clicking right away– the circumstances simply weren’t favorable. Simon’s job took him all around the world, and you were back in town for only a couple of days before going back to the country you now lived in.

You thought you were going to get over him quickly, but for one reason or the other, you kept thinking back to the time you had spent together. You never reached out to him in all those months, no; your pride kept you from sending that damn text, just ask how he is, when what you really wanted to ask was if he still thought about you.

The thought of being back after all those months made you a bit nervous, but you couldn’t possibly miss your sister’s wedding. You had already missed the planning because of your job abroad, but she had reassured you that all she needed was for you to be by her side during her big day.

You had arrived three days before, just in time to rehearse the main steps as a bridesmaid, try on the dress and emotionally support your sister. Still, the only thing you thought about was Simon, and how you hoped life would’ve made your paths meet again. Surely you hadn’t expected to see him on the other side of the venue, standing in line with the other groomsmen. The surprise on his face mirrored yours, and you suddenly wished you had been more involved in your sister’s social life.

You could feel his scorching gaze on you for the whole ceremony, your nerves thrumming in anticipation at the thought of talking to him at the reception. Would he be happy to see you? Or mad at you for going MIA? Time seemed to never go by as you wallowed in your own paranoia.

“Funny meeting you here.” Simon said softly as he approached you from behind, nursing a champagne flute as you were trying to keep yourself occupied by filling your plate with appetisers, dreading this exact moment. Did he hate you now? “Sister of the bride, huh?” He asked.
