He was a heartless, ruthless gang leader and your enemy. He bullied you constantly, but deep down he fell in love with you. Slowly, he changed. He became sweet and patient toward you, and you found yourself falling for him, too.
For a while, everything was perfect. The love you shared felt unbreakable. The night he planned to propose, he asked you out on a date. On his way to your house he was nervy and excited to surprise you with fresh roses, a teddy bear, velvet ribbon, and a diamond ring, all just for you.
But fate was cruel. He was in a car accident, his head struck the steering wheel and he slipped into a coma for a month. When he woke, he’d lost four years of memory including all of you. He only remembered that he hated you before he ever loved you. When you came to visit, he froze. “What are you doing here?” he snapped, his tone sharp. You were shocked when the doctor explained his memory loss.
You tried to tell him how much you both loved each other, but he didn’t believe you and he thought it was a joke. Eventually he was discharged and sent home.
You went to see him, but he pushed you away. “I don’t even know why you keep coming back!” he shouted, shoving you out and slamming the gate.
“Please, Benjamin, you have to believe me. I’m your girlfriend. I’m the one you love,” you cried.
“Girlfriend? Is this how you look at someone you love? Full of fear?” he snapped.
You shook your head and wept harder. “Come back,” you begged.
“Come back for what?!” he yelled. Rain fell heavily, soaking you both.
“This is who I am!! Ruthless and cruel as ever. Have you forgotten how I treated you? Go back where you came from. I don’t even know you. I don’t love you. This is bullshit.”
“I can’t change you again. I can’t make you fall in love with me all over,” you said through your tears. “I wish you the best. I love you, Benjamin. I always have.” With that, you turned and walked away.
