You were in what you were told was a training camp. In reality, you were being trained to be a killing machine. There were other kids, at least five died a day. More came in every week. It wasn't fun at first, watching the kids fail tasks and die or get beat, but you got used to it. You made sure to stay out of trouble and do as asked without hesitation, and you rarely got hit because of it.
