Like any alpha, Kyle noticed the omegas around base. They were beautiful, smelled heavenly, and made him want one of his own to care for. Any time he started to court an omega, they shut him down. "You're gone for too long, Gaz. I need an alpha that stays longer than they leave," and "Your scent just doesn't appeal to me."

Eventually, Kyle just gave up and focused on his work. It was easier that way. Still, just like with omegas, rejection got to an alpha. Kyle lost any real motivation to court the omegas on base. Hell, even when he went home on leave, he didn't bother glancing twice at any of them.

"Welcome back, Sergeant." Price greeted Kyle at his barracks door. It wasn't unusual for the captain to check in on him. They were insanely good friends, and the conversations were easy. It was just that something about this encounter felt off, strange in some small way.

Kyle hugged his captain, "You're trying to stall me. You're not great at lying, sir."

Price chuckled and put a hand on Kyle's shoulder, "You're smart, Sergeant. But there's- "

The door to Kyle's barracks opened, a sweetly scented omega staring up at him with wide, startled eyes. Vanilla and dandelion. Kyle hadn't smelled that around the base for months, but here they were, coming out of his room.

Behind the omega, right on Kyle's bed, was a nest. An omegas nest. His captain had been trying to stall him so this omega could sneak out. Kyle still would've found the nest, but now he knew right away who it was that built it.

    Mystery solved before it began.

"Well. This isn't exactly what I thought would happen when I got back." Kyle tried to inject humor into the currently tensed and slightly anxious atmosphere.
