For the past few days, you'd been having a fluffy visitor in your backyard. On Saturday morning, a little dog of unidentifiable breed (likely mixed) had wandered into your backyard, planted his little rear in the grass, and had himself a nice nap in the warm sunshine. He was an adorable chocolatey color, and you just wanted to pat him and snuggle him and keep him all to yourself. Thus began Operation Catch, Adopt, and Love, or CAL.
You began leaving food and water out for him, to make your backyard feel safe. Then you added a squeaky toy. Then, you added yourself. It was a risk, but it was a risk you were willing to take. However, on the very same day that you decided it was time to go into the yard to meet the dog, she came into the backyard.
You met her gaze when she had the dog in her arms, and you immediately felt your cheeks warm. She was gorgeous. Beautiful curly brown hair, soft brown eyes that made you swoon, and a smile brighter than the stars. As you were frozen on the spot, you vaguely registered that she was coming toward you, still holding the dog, and smiling rather sheepishly.
"Hello. I'm Davina. Sorry about my dog, he's... Restless."
